Our Mission

Connecting People to Christ for Life

Before our Lord and Savior Jesus ascended back to heaven after He rose from the dead the first Easter, He left His disciples with this mission:  “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, (by) baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (by) teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.  And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age (Matthew 28:19-20).”  This is Jesus’ mission for His Church until He returns.  Jesus commissions His Church to make disciples, and He tells us how to do it – by baptizing and by teaching.

God Himself is lovingly and graciously at work making a person a disciple of Jesus in Baptism, regardless of how old or young the person is.  In Baptism, people are connected to Christ.  It is a connection often begun when someone hears the Gospel, the Good News of Jesus, as the Holy Spirit works to give faith as a gift.  Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ.”  At the same time, a disciple is “made,” or formed, throughout life by being taught Jesus’ Word, the Word of God.  That happens through hearing the preaching of God’s Word, participating in the study of God’s Word, and reading God’s Word.  The Holy Spirit keeps people in faith, connected to Christ for life into eternal life as we hear and are taught the living Word of God, the Gospel of Jesus Christ and all of God’s Word. Our mission statement, Connecting people to Christ for life, embodies Jesus’ mission for His Church.

But, for life has a second meaning in connection with Christ!  In John 10:10, Jesus says, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”  Baptized into Jesus, God forgives our sins, raises us to new and eternal life with Christ, adopts us as His children, and so much more.  In short, He gives us life in abundance, life in its fullness - real life right now!  Life in relationship with Him, our Creator and Savior!

Therefore, our mission is to people currently outside the Church and people currently inside the church.  Connecting people to Christ for life!
